This site is a repository for memorabilia from the Officer Cadet Training Company (OCTC) class of 1983, subsequent reunions, parades and other pertinent events.
Circa 1983 OCTC was the New Zealand Army Regular Officer training school, part of the Army Training Group (ATG) located in Waiouru, New Zealand. Waiouru is a sub-alpine desert located in the centre of the North Island with Mt Ruapehu and Narahoe (Mt Doom for Lord of the Rings fans) to the Northwest, the Ruahieni ranges to the East. Summers are hot and dry while winter brings sub-zero temperatures and snow.
After attending a Regular Officer Selection Board (ROSB) candidates that demonstrated appropriate potential were invited to attend OCTC.
OCTC was a year of learning, development, moulding and assessment, often under considerable pressure to observe how candidates (individually and collectively) would respond. As you might expect there was significant attrition on the journey. Some cadets elected to leave of their own volition while others were rejected after failing to meet requirements or having been deemed unsuitable potential. Just 21 graduated from an initial cohort of more than 50 officer cadets.
As you might reasonably expect, a year of close confinement and shared experiences formed a bond of comradeship between the graduates. While the class of 83 have largely moved on from the New Zealand Army to other paths, that bond persists to this day.
